Owen Hargreaves
Debut – August 15th 2001 V Holland
Caps – 34
Goals – 0
After Hargreaves made his debut for England, he has improved for England ever since, he played his part in the opening two matches of the 2002 world cup finals, however injury against Argentina meant he could play no more part. In fact in the 2002 world cup finals, he was the only member of the English football team not to be playing his football in the premiership. Hargreaves made several appearances for England in qualifying for Euro 2004; he played in the 2004 finals, however in most of his game he came on as a substitute. After Euro 2004, he made very few appearances for England. Eriksson brought him back into the squad for the 2006 world cup warm up matches. Hargreaves had many critics going into the 2006 world cup; however he proved everyone wrong, he had an outstanding tournament. He was England’s man of the match in their final two matches against Ecuador and Portugal; he was the only English player to score in the penalty shoot out against Portugal.

David Beckham
Debut – September 1996 V Moldova
Caps – 94
Goals – 17
Beckham made his debut against Moldova in September 1996, and has been a permanent fixture in the England first team since. Beckham played in all of England’s qualifying matches for the 1998 world cup finals. He played an integral part during England’s world cup campaign, his free kick against Colombia was outstanding, and however his sending off against Argentina ended his world cup campaign. Euro 2000 was by far his best tournament for England, he was outstanding throughout the tournament, running all over the football pitch, supplying perfect crosses, however his brilliant display was not enough to keep England in the competition past the first phase. Beckham was installed England captain in November 2000 by caretaker manager Peter Taylor and inspired his team to qualification to the 2002 world cup finals. Beckham played well in the 2002 finals and skippered England during Euro 2004 and the 2006 world cup finals.
