Paul Scholes

His full international debut came against Italy in Le Tournoi de France. He soon opened his account for England, grabbing one of the goals in a 2-0 victory. By the time of the 1998 world cup finals, Scholes was an automatic choice for England. He started in all four of their matches, scoring a beauty against Tunisia. A Euro 2000 qualifier against Poland provided Scholes with his greatest moment in international football. He scored a hat trick in a 3-1 victory and proudly marched off the pitch with the match ball tucked under his arm. As Kevin Keegan’s men had difficulty in qualifying for Euro 2000, they had to face a volatile play off match against Scotland; it was Scholes who made the difference. He scored both goals in a 2-0 victory at Hampden Park and ended Scotland hopes of qualifying for the European Football championships.
Scholes played a vital role for England during the 2002 world cup finals and played in Euro 2004, retiring after the tournament from international football.

 

Sol Campbell

Campbell made his full international football debut in 1996; however he came to prominence during the 1998 world cup finals. He was a towering presence at the back in the 1998 finals; he also made some eye catching forays up field. He thought he won England a place in the quarter finals when he headed the ball into the back of the Argentine net, only for the goal to be ruled out. Campbell Played for England during the 2000 and 2004 European football championships, producing excellent defencive football for England. Another dazzling display for England during the 2002 world cup finals earned Campbell even more respect. He played a minor role for England in the 2006 world cup finals, coming on as a substitute in one match.

Michael Owen

Owen was just 18 years and 59 days when he was awarded his first international football cap for England. He became the youngest player at that point to play for his national football team. Less than four months after his debut, he became the youngest player to score for England when he found the back of the net in a warm up match against Morocco. Owen went into the 1998 world cup finals more or less as a fringe player. When England fell behind against Romania, Hoddle threw Owen on the football pitch and he hit the equalizer for England. His blistering run and memorable strike in the match against Argentina confirmed him in the football hall of fame. Michael Owen recorded two goals in Euro 2000, 20002 world cup and Euro 2004.

 

Gary Neville

Gary Neville’s international football call up came in June 1995 against Japan. Neville played four matches for England during Euro 96, only suspension kept him out of the semi final match against Germany, he was once a gain a key member of the squad for the 1998 world cup finals, and was in blistering form for England during Euro 2000. His understanding with David Beckham on the football pitch always provided England with a potent attacking option on the right flank. He missed out on the 2002 world cup finals suffering from injury. Euro 2004 was another fine tournament for Neville; however England were knocked out in the quarter finals. Neville played two games in the 2006 world cup finals, against Paraguay and Portugal; injury forced him out of the other matches.
