1976- 1980
Denmark 3-4 England (October 1978 European football championships qualification match)

England travelled to Denmark in what proved to be a classic encounter between the two football nations. With so much pressure on Ron Greenwood, he must have had near – apoplexy in their match against Denmark. By the 23rd minute of the match, England found themselves 2-0 up through two headers from Kevin Keegan. Then in a three minute spell, the Danes levelled the score line, with their first goal coming from a penalty. Right after the interval Bob Latchford gave England the lead and Phil Neal made it 4-2 with only five minutes remaining. However Denmark immediately replied a few minutes later as Ruentved made the score 3-4. Despite frantic efforts by the home team, England hanged on to win the match 4-3. After the match a relieved Ron greenwood stated, ‘I am an advocate of attacking football – however that was carrying it to extremes.’ To this day this football match is regarded as one of the greatest attacking games England has ever played.
